Beschreibung

  1. Richard Sporleder

Richard Sporleder from Cafe Lehmitz Photobooks had this to say about Provisional Life:

„Photographic book ‚Provisional Life‘ by Icelandic photographer Rannveig EINARSDOTTIR is a project about refugees living in refugee homes in Berlin.
The series was even published as a photo book in a limited edition of 400 copies, with the help of the well-known Dutch photobook designer Sybren (‚SYB‘) KUIPER.

‚Provisional Life‘ is a large format leporello without text. After an introduction that shows the things that surround people in refugee homes, portraits and family portraits follow in color.

Rannveig EINARSDOTTIR is able to photograph people as normal as possible under these circumstances. The refugees trust her and it is obvious that her sociological background helps to take the photos.
While the photos speak for themselves, the viewer inevitably gets to imagine that the current migration can happen to us at any time.
With the publication ‚Provisional Life‘, Rannveig transforms the unknown mass into an individual fate and makes it tangible.“ (© Richard G. SPORLEDER)

  5. Ivorypress Bookstore

Ivorypress Bookstore in Madrid has written about Provisional Life

Myndir Rannveigar eru afar sterkar og segja hver og ein margar sögur.

Fyrr á þessu ári sendi Rannveig Einarsdóttir félagssálfræðingur og ljósmyndari, sem er búsett í Berlín, frá sér einkar fallega ljósmyndabók sem ber titilinn Provisional Life. Myndirnar tók Rannveig á fjögurra ára tímabili af íbúum á flóttamannaheimili í Berlín.

Myndir Rannveigar eru afar sterkar og segja hver og ein margar sögur. „Það tók tíma að vinna trúnað fólksins, að þau treysti mér til að misnota ekki myndirnar.“ Oft þurftu samskiptin að fara fram án orða og það var stundum jafnvel gott, „vegna þess að við horfum fyrir vikið meira á hvort annað, skynjum hvort annað miklu betur en ef við hefðum haft samskipti með orðum.“
Mikill tími fór í það að hanna bókina og fékk Rannveig hollenskan hönnuð, Sybren (SYB) KUIPER, sér til aðstoðar. Í sameiningu ákváðu þau að kaflaskipta bókinni þannig að hún skyldi hefjast á umhverfinu án fólks um leið og aðstæður manneskjunnar sem hefur skapað sér þetta ákveðna rými. Hér má skoða nokkrar myndir úr bókinni Provisional Life.

Hér fyrir neðan má hlusta á lengri útgáfu af samtalinu við Rannveigu.

A book of resilience and life power
On his Instagram account, as part of a series he calls POSSIBLE BOOKS TO TALK ABOUT #62, Syb, the designer of Provisional Life, published a video of the book and he had this to say about the pictures:
A book of resilience and life power. Images from a refugee home in Berlin. Not only focusing on the hardship and gloom but mostly on the amazing capability of people to make even the most unsuitable places a home, to maintain their daily rituals and dignity and especially the life force of children who do what they do best, being children. @re.photowork
